On September 15, 2002, a reception was given by Luverne First Assembly of God to honor all local police officers, fire fighters, emergency medical technicians and sheriff's department personnel. Mayor John Harrison and Probate Judge Jim Perdue, as well as Pastor Steve Defee all spoke of the debt of gratitude that is owed to them.

Special music was performed, the names of all officers were called and plaques were presented to representatives from each department.
