On January 23 several days of anticipation came to a close, as eleven men from the church brought their cakes to be judged. The entrants included: Craig Luster, with a red velvet cake; Billy Davis made yellow layers with chocolate frosting; Ricky Brantley brought a carrot cake; Brian Davis had a coconut cake; Raymond Butts entered an Italian cream cake; Aaron Rhodes brought a four layer chocolate cake; Randy Rogers had a strawberry cake; Ken Lyons made a German chocolate; Steve Defee brought sour cream pound cake; J.T. James made a chocolate pound cake; and Addison Dozier brought a '"down south" yam cake.
All cakes were judged anonymously in the fellowship hall. After evening worship services were over, everyone had cake and soft drinks or coffee (see here, here, here and here) then the winners were announced. (The picture above can be clicked for a larger version) First place was taken by Craig Luster, second place went to Ken Lyons, and third place was won by Billy Davis. Everyone had a good time; the men enjoyed discussing recipe instructions and the women now know that the men can be responsible for having desserts at the next fellowship supper.
The contest was a great success, and we plan to make this an annual affair.
